Whistle Counter

Local Audio processing to detect whistles. A “full whistle” is counted when a tonal high-pitch sound stays present for ≥ 2 seconds. Talking and far-off sounds are reduced using a noise gate + voice rejection + tonal checks.

Tuning

High band start (Hz) Whistles often ~2–6 kHz High band end (Hz) Increase if your whistle is higher-pitched.

Trigger threshold (0.18) Sensitivity for high-band energy ratio. Release threshold (0.12) Must fall below this to “re-arm”.

Min whistle duration (s) Counts only after the sound continues for this duration. Noise gate (min RMS) Raises ignoring of far/quiet sounds.

Tone peakiness min (3.50x) Higher = more “pure tone” required. Voice reject ratio (1.80x) High band must beat speech band by this factor.

Tip: If it counts speech, raise Voice reject or Peakiness. If it misses whistles, lower Trigger or Peakiness.
